What is No Dig?

No Dig is a method used by Charles Dowding. The idea is that you spend more time gardening and less time de-weeding. When soil is manipulated, dug up and turned over the soil then has to recover. During that recovery, the soil produces weeds.

No Dig goes against almost everything we understand about gardening. When I think of agriculture, I imagine tractor turning over the soil, and so naturally to mimic that I want to get stuck in with my shovel, and I want to turn over the soil to keep it “fresh”.

But this gardening methods says, don’t do that. Hold tight. Leave the soil. It simplifies the whole process.
