Homemade Natural Cleaning Products

The time for toxic, expensive cleaning products is well and truly out. Especially when you can make your own, and it doesn’t take very long at all. Plus it’s made from scraps you’d already have, and would’ve thrown away.

Not all home composting can take citrus peel, so we have the perfect solution for it.

So let’s get a little more planet friendly and put our old citrus scraps to use.

You’ll need:

  • A jar

  • A glass spray bottle

  • Distilled white vinegar

  • Citrus peel

Preparation Time:

5 minutes

Waiting Time:

2 weeks

Fill your jar with citrus peel and pour over your distilled white vinegar. Let it sit for 2 weeks at room temperature - to allow it to extract the oils from the peel (you want all of those yummy essential oils). After 1-2 weeks, strain your concoction, removing the peel, and place it in your spray bottle. You can either use it neat, or dilute it. We recommend diluting your solution and going 1:1 for a multipurpose homemade cleaning product.

Things to be aware of:

As good or familiar as it might smell don't confuse distilled white vinegar with the regular stuff you’d douse your fish and chips with. You can’t consume or ingest this sort of distilled white vinegar.

Always test patch it first.

Do not use it on stone countertops or tiles.

Do not use vinegar on hardwood floors or no-wax floors.
